URGE
Urge is a meditation on our desire to control ourselves, others and the world around us. In the opening scene, two dancers carefully place grapes between the teeth of a third. As spasm-like impulses drive her into motion, they patronizingly caution, “Don’t Bite!” With a sadistic edge, they alternately tempt and restrain her. Her face distorts with the effort of fitting 4 grapes between her teeth. Finally, she breaks away from them, grunting as she devours the fruit. Juice and pulp drip from her fingers as she indulges her previously restrained desire. The others look on in shock, and the stage is set for the viewer to consider where their own habits and behaviors lie on the continuum between self-discipline and obsession.
